Hello Chaminda,

I'm sorry for the late reply or participation in this discussion. It marks the life some of us find ourselves in. I admire your courage in helping other less fortunate brethren even though you may be struggling too. I would wish to offer some practical help by way of teaching face-to-face. However, some of us are getting to that stage in our lives where we are becoming "inflexible" to extensive stays due to career, family and other commitments. It is possible for me to do a shorter work in the future and most importantly, I may be able to offer help in other ways besides being present physically.

May I use this opportunity to wish you and the coomunity well in your endeavours.

Hello Chaminda, Great to hear from you. I admire you for your passion and courage in educating the youth in your country. I would like to offer any assitance in terms of developing your english programmes. With time and other responsibilities could hinder this but I think I got a better idea.

I would like to participate in the upcoming global campaign for education which would be taking place on the 20-26 April.

The campaign is designed to mobilise maximum support for Adult and Youth Literacy and Lifelong Learning through the act of reading and writing and story telling.

Please gather as many youth as you can, especially those out of school and can not read nor write.

Take pictures or videos and post them back to me. Alternatively you can register at http://www.campaignforeducation.org/bigread/en/ and join in.

I would be very much happy to hear from you soon with regards to how you are going to participate in this campaign.

So we kindly ask upon from you please give your ideas and proposals to us, to develop this conditions.

Chaminda, yes I think I can help quite a lot here starting late April 2009 (I have other commitments before then), as follows:

01 The people who can spend their vacation in Sri Lanka and should have a ability to develop the English knowledge of our village children.

I have returned to study at the University of Western Australia, so this vacation opportunity is out for me.

02 If you cant do like that you can discuss deferrent idea with our members in Virtual society and can improve their English knowelege by writing to a social Network.

Yes, I can help here with online coaching and tutoring, and with any remedial help some of the children might need.

03 If you are a manger of a Tele center you can connect your Tele center holders to our ICT Mini Campus virtual society and can exchange global knowledge.

This may work but can be cumbersome. Far better to manage One-on-One contact with the children by establishing a good longer-term teaching relationship. Children become disoriented quickly having to shift all the time from one adult to another, or not knowing who they will have next.

04 About the online courses you know and that can introduce to our children

I have tried this at various times over the years. There may be some good programs out there, but personally I think the children need to be reading from real books, and writing their work out by hand. If that work can be scanned and sent to their tutor that would work well if it accompanies work typed into their computer (such as email exchange, etc.)

05 About the BPO Online jobs that can do by join in with you are center.

Yes, perhaps you can send me more information on this.

Kindest regards, and good luck,

Gil
