About Me:
I completed my Electrical Engineering credits at National University of Engineering. The strongest experience embodies the volunteering work during 4 years in the Solar Energy field with the university program named Grupo Fenix. In that time, I was glad to make research and develop project ideas for the unprotected and non grid rural areas of Nicaragua. Several workshops, visits and case studies were done with the purpose of designing a cost effective lighting solution to the villages. On the other hand, since 2004 I became student member of IEEE (The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) which gave me opportunities to disseminate and publish the engineering project results.
During 2005, I participated in Mondialogo Engineering Award, which is a foundation launched by UNESCO and Daimler Chrysler. Mondialogo promotes student engineering solutions for the society and the intercultural dialogue among participants. A project proposal was submitted among 400 universities worldwide and we were honored to end in the first 40 finalist project team. The award included a special recognition with certificates. Finally at the end of 2006, a group of international students and I formed a non profit organization named Bright New Ideas where we commit to find and bring energy solutions to people who need it most. [http://www.brightnewideas.org]
I also got the opportunity to be chosen as ITU Youth Fellow to attend the ITU World Telecom Conference in Hong Kong 2006, which was a great experience to keep innovating in the ICT field to empower our project solutions.

Favorite Social Entrepreneur:
In the Solar Lantern Project, rural villages are organized and divided in 13 territories which are represented by leaders of more than 150 communities and their organization is being managed by a local NGO named AVODEC located in the main city of Jinotega which has limited but useful energy and computer access conditions for the installation of a Technological Workshop Center (TWC) in the locality. The project has begun with the distribution of 60 solar lantern prototypes and a second round is expected to be developed at the end of 2007 with help of the TWC installation that will consist of 13 computers with full internet access, VoIP, media, etc. The work mechanism is one computer for each territory leader and a complete program training to involve more leaders in to actions. TWC will be installed by a computer recycling model where the equipment will come as donation from national institutions and private industries. Training will be given by students to avoid additional costs in the budget and the TWC is expected to grow in the future at the rate of one computer per leader with the same strategy.
