This is awesome, thank you so much for posting it! I think this type of advice is so useful for all of us, especially the "newbies" who are trying to learn as much as they can as early as possible. Thanks, Gary!

About Me:
I was born in a small town in Northern California. Grass Valley, California, is not known as one of the cultural, political or social centers of the world; you would not find this sleepy rural former Gold Rush town on CNN as a symbol for the new world order. But, once upon a time, it comprised my whole world, a world of predictability, stability and warmth. Small town America was all I knew and loved. But my life was to be abruptly and radically changed! Like a character in a modern fairy tale, I was plucked from my home and thrust into a new world which was to dazzle, confuse, thrill, and, ultimately, transform me for the better. I was informed that my family was moving to Bangkok, Thailand.

I spent the next 8 years of my life (from age 9-17) living in Bangkok. It was here that I developed my sense of internationalism, open-mindedness, and independence.

After being offered a scholarship to study International Relations, I moved to San Francisco where through a series of fortunate events, I became involved in a small start-up internet non-profit organization that was to be called Kiva.org. After learning and becoming involved in the world of microfinance, I became obsessed with the idea. I felt like I had found my calling, I had found "my tribe" in the San Francisco Kiva office.

I followed Muhammad Yunus to the Asian Pacific region microcredit summit in Bali and my obsession shot off into a new direction inspired by Yunus' second book, "Creating a World Without Poverty" which focused on the idea of social business.

Nothing made more sense to me than this.

So, through a series of more fortunate events, I became involved with ChangeFusion and now help them to coordinate and develop their support for seeding and start-up social businesses in the Asia region.
I'm really just want to do some good in this world. Who knows, maybe I can even make a living out of it!

HI Brooke!

Thank you for the welcome. I have two networks of my own that I amtrying to get off the ground. I also have a few internet businesses I am also involved in. My full time job is in B2B business development. I originally started my networks with the idea of getting traffic to see my internet business ads. I soon found out that I had my priorities wrong and realized I enjoyed helping people more. My ads are not even posted at this time...maybe later. It is just a lot of fun meeting and helping others to be successful. I am new at this but am learning from a few good people who have reached out to help me.

It is good to meet you here.

Hi Christian,

I'm so glad you made your way over to Futureshifters!

Yeah, I heard about Fat Freddy's Drop when I was in Australia a couple years back and instantly fell in love with their sound. I will definitely be checking out their new album- thanks for the heads up!

So you will have an MBA in innovation & social entrepreneurship and want to intern at Change Fusion in January? I highly doubt we'll be able to pay you much (if anything at all) but if you are interested in an unpaid internship then we should DEFINITELY continue this conversation. Do you have Skype? :)

I look forward to learning more about your project and hopefully meeting you in the future!

(also, if you're interested in seeing the conference I just helped run with my other job at All Day Buffet, check out the conference here: http://alldaybuffet.stream57.com/thefeast/ and also a really stellar article about it here: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2009/10/the-feast-conference-by-all-day-buffet.php)

Bonjour brooke =)

i knew fat freddy's drop during a travel to new zealand a few years ago...even the sheep there are big fans of the band ! haha (btw they've release a new album a few days ago...)

What work brings me to futureshifters ?
i'm actually doing an MBA in a french business school in Innovation & social entrepreneurship
& i'm currently working in the "Business innovation Garage" of a high tech company on related innovation themes....

During these activities i've noticed that real innovations comes from social business (as describe by yunus ) ! even ideo is admitting it with their HDC toolkit ( http://www.ideo.com/work/item/human-centered-design-toolkit/ )

As the subject is closely link to my values & my start up project, i've decided to try to immerge myselft in the social buiness world.
to do so i've google for some projects in asia.
then i found change fusion,
then i found futureshifters.
and then i found you.
voila ! You know everything =)

by the way, do you know if there's any chance for an internship in january @change fusion ? =)

brgds & all the best,

christian

Upcycling Clothes to make HOMES?!

Jin Hong, Sebastian Brauer, Ji In Sun, and Jackie Starker, four students at the University of the Arts in Philly, have come up with a line of "Wearable Shelter" clothing: "Three durable, watertight, and wind-resistant garments that are lightweight enough for everyday wear yet easily convertible into tents or sleeping bags that can brave the elements." Although the clothes, which are made from used sleeping bags, workout clothing and performance jackets, were designed for post-disaster scenarios,… Continue
